Two person sauna: the size that fits indoors

A two-person sauna takes little more than one and a half square metres and fits a generous bathroom, a basement room or a corner of a loft. The 2 models in the range cover the two main technologies: the Finnish sauna BL-181, a Finnish cabin with a stone heater that brings the air up to 90 degrees; and the Infrared sauna BL-103, infrared, which works between 45 and 60 degrees by heating the body directly rather than the air. These are different experiences, not two versions of the same product.

Footprint and height: check the ceiling first

The Finnish sauna BL-181 measures 150 × 100 cm, the Infrared sauna BL-103 155 × 110. Height is the figure that blocks most installations: 200 cm for the Finnish cabin, 190 for the infrared one. In a loft or a basement with a low ceiling, measure the available height before ordering, allowing for the thickness of any screed if the cabin sits on one.

The difference lies in how the heat is produced. A Finnish sauna heats the air with a stone heater: it reaches 80 to 90 degrees at low humidity, you sweat heavily, and water can be poured onto the stones for a burst of steam. Heating takes more than forty minutes. An infrared sauna emits radiant heat that reaches the body directly: the air stays between 45 and 60 degrees, the environment is far more tolerable, and you can go in a few minutes after switching on. Anyone after the traditional ritual chooses the Finnish cabin; anyone wanting short frequent sessions with no waiting chooses infrared.

Is a special electrical installation needed? Finnish heaters at this size generally require a dedicated circuit; infrared cabins connect to a standard domestic socket. Check against the model's technical sheet and have the work done by a qualified electrician.

Does it work in a bathroom? Yes, provided there is the space and the ceiling is high enough. Ventilation is required: a sauna produces humidity and the room has to be able to clear it.
